This is an old revision of the document!

The charts screen allows you to plot simulation results and has a lot in common with the tables screen. The layout and shared functionality is described in data output screens.

Depending on the type of simulation that has been run, different charts are available. A chart is created by first selecting outputs in the list. The will attempt to create a chart which suites the selected output, but if you want a specific chart you can select the chart type from the menu.

Time chartCreates a time chart
Scatter chartCreates a scatter chart
HistogramCreates a histogram. This chart is only available for probabilistic results.
TornadoCreates a tornado chart. This chart is only available for probabilistic results.
CloneDuplicates the currently visible chart.

Displays all the available simulation outputs. When you select an output in the list, a chart is automatically created for you. If you want a specific type of chart, either click the corresponding button in the menu or right-click and select the chart from the menu that appears.

To the left is a list with all available simulation outputs. All results from a simulation is (by default) packaged in a folder named with the date and type of simulation 1). This folder in turn contains folders for each sub-system. These folders contains the simulation outputs. If an output has dependencies - for instance a concentration which is contaminant dependent - you must click the + button to access results for a specific contaminant.

1) If several simulations have been run using scenarios, the results for each scenario is packaged in a folder with the same name as the scenario.

When a simulation is selected a chart or table is automatically created. If you wish to create another type of chart or table, right-click and choose the type you want from the menu. To include more than one result in the same plot, keep the CTRL key pressed while selecting results.

Please refer to this page for more information about results.

Right-click a simulation output in the result list for a menu. The first half of the menu lets you create different types of charts and/or tables, the second half lets you manage results:

  • Create archive - Convert the latest simulation results into an archive.
  • Delete archive - Delete an archive.
  • Export results… - Save results to an archive file (extension .ear) or as a tab separated text file (extension .txt). This allow you to post process data other software. It also makes it possible for you to read data into another project and plot results from different simulations in the same chart.
  • Import results… - Read results from an archive file or a tab separated text file.
  • Export to Excel… - Export results (one way) to Excel.

Use the search filters below when the number of outputs make results difficult to find.

  • Name - Enter part of the name of the output
  • Index - If you are interested in specific indices - for instance a contaminant or type of food.
  • Type - The type of block used in the model for the output.

When you select an output in the Results list, a chart will automatically be created which is titled 'Quickview'. This chart is replaced as soon as you select other outputs in the list. To retain the chart, you must create a chart using the menu buttons.

Each chart is given a page identified by the title of the chart. To change the properties of the chart, you can either use the buttons beneath in the Plot box, or right-click the chart and select Edit from the menu.

Time chart

A time chart will plot the selected outputs against time. When you plot a probabilistic output, by default the mean value is displayed. To select other statistics you must edit the chart.

Scatter chart

The scatter chart plots one or more outputs against another output. For deterministic simulations, values for all time points are plotted. For probabilistic simulations, values for a given time point are plotted. For more settings, edit the chart.

Displays a histogram for the selected outputs at a given time point. To control the number of bins and other settings, edit the chart.

Tornado chart

The tornado chart is used for sensitivity analysis. It displays the impact of uncertain parameters on one output by displaying correlation coefficients in a horizontal bar diagram. You can select which sensitivity indices to display from the Plot box below. To specify which parameters to include, as well as other settings, edit the chart.

Exporting data

You can export data for a given chart either to an Excel file. Right-click the chart and select Export data….
