Overview

The user interface of MERLIN-Expo is organised as ten screens which are accessed through tabs (coloured blue in the picture above). The tabs are ordered as the screens are intended to be used:

  1. Info screen - for opening and saving projects and for describing your study.
  2. Model screen - for assembling or inspecting the model used for your study.
  3. Context screen - for selecting contaminants, food, etc. relevant to your study.
  4. Options screen - for controlling how different values are calculated, which processes are active etc.
  5. Time series screen - for entering time dependent data, like concentration measurements etc.
  6. Parameters screen - for entering constant values and statistical information.
  7. Simulation screen - for configuring and performing simulations
  8. Charts screen - for plotting simulation results
  9. Tables screen - for creating tables of simulation results
  10. Report screen - for generating reports of the study

Toolbar

Each screen features a row of buttons referred to as the tool bar (coloured red in the picture). These buttons give you access to functionality such as saving a project, exporting/importing values or changing simulation settings.

Editing items

Some screens display a list of items on the left hand side (coloured yellow in the picture). When you select an item, information about the item appears in the panel on the right (coloured cyan in the picture).

Under the list are a set of controls (coloured green in the picture) that allow you to search for specific items:

Name - Enter part of or the whole name of an object to hide all other objects. Category - Select the category of the object. Tags - Select one or more tags for the object. Only objects with all the selected tags will be shown. Sub-system - Select the sub-system (sub-system) of the object. -Selected sub-system- will show objects for the currently selected sub-system in the model screen.

Information

Some screens feature a button named Information. When you clicked, a browser like panel is displayed in which information about the currently selected object(s) is presented. This includes general information, such as the name and dimension of the object, information on which other objects are using the objects as well as all the equations, or values, of the object. Click the links in the browser to find out more about other objects.

How to find a block

If you are interested in looking at the equation of a specific block, and the block is not displayed in the graph or interaction matrix, select the sub-system of the block in the model screen. This will list all the blocks in the sub-system. Click the link for the block you are interested in.
